Photography is a passion in itself.

Some people keep this as a pastime, and for some it's a profession.

It depends on your economic and social backgrounds. 

Even big businessmen, professionals like doctors, bankers etc., and administrators in the government or non-governmental institutions  take to photography as a closely-held hobby .

In fact, some of these are as good as professional photographers and their clicks have earned great awards and money .

But, generally people who treat  photography as a pastime do not care to learn the technicalities in detail and as a result, the pictures taken by them  do not command much respect in the photographic circles.

The Non-professional amateur photographers indulge in taking snaps of the special occasions like  wedding, anniversaries, Parties, etc..

There are sincere and serious breed of the Amateurs who behave as the professional though not same. They capture and share their clicks to the Local Newspaper, Magazines, journals or even upload to the niche websites which focus on the Photography exclusively and certain websites host the facilities to encourage the progress and growth of fine arts like Poetry, Photography, Painting, etc..

Such social print and electronic  media organize the competitions  and contests to promote the outstanding talent, the amateur photographers make a bang and take a hit at the jackpot.

So amateur also turns to become a professional after a period.
